10 platforms to find great ideas that people love 😍
3 newsletters to get news about new startup ideas 🗞️
How to figure out the weaknesses of these products 🤔
Factors to check to understand good ideas that caught your eyes 🧐
Let’s get started.
1. 10 platforms to find great ideas that people love 😍
Acquire.com - A founder-friendly startup acquisition marketplace, which has wonderful startup ideas that are performing well.
Product Hunt - To discover new products, startups, and discussions around innovative tech ideas.
Reddit - Reddit has a wide range of subreddits (topic-specific communities) covering virtually every interest and industry. For example, r/startups, r/entrepreneur, and industry-specific subreddits can be valuable resources.
Quora - Hosts discussions on a multitude of topics. You can search for questions and answers related to your idea or industry.
Crunchbase - Information about startups, including funding rounds, founders, and company profiles.
Angellist - A platform for startups, investors, and job seekers in the tech industry. You can find information about startups and investors here.
Indie Hackers - If you're developing a small online business or a side project, Indie Hackers is a community where indie founders share their experiences and insights while building their product publicly.
Meetup.com - Check for relevant Meetup groups in your area. These groups may host events and discussions related to your industry. And this is a great platform to start networking too.
Moz Community - If you're interested in SEO and online marketing, Moz has a community forum where you can find discussions on these topics.
Stack Overflow - For programming related ideas and issues
Check for the problems that people have asked which are related to your skillful and passionate categories (Fashion, Food etc.)
If you already have an idea/ product that you’re working on/ for, then find similar products in the above platforms or by Googling or via ChatGPT.
3. How to figure out the weaknesses of these products 🤔
Eg: If it’s a mobile app, then check the reviews for those apps in the App store or Play store.
You can find both the best features (check the 4-5 stars reviews) and what these products are lacking (1-3 star reviews).
Those 1-3 star reviews will help you to come up with new ideas for your product, because those are the real problems of users. Solve them and you can find your own user base.
4. Factors to check to understand good ideas 🧐
Keep an eye on new startup ideas to track the below factors.
What features are they releasing now (were these features requested by their previous users? If yes, these are the needs of the market).
What features have they released already in the past in different phases (if you get an idea about the phases, this will help you in identifying your MVP and the resources, budgets and time allocations you need to focus when you are developing these features).
What features have helped them to gain high customer conversion & high revenue (pay high attention to this, because these are the features we need for us).
What investment phases they are going through now (this will help you to understand how much cost they are incurring to build and scale the business. If they are growing high in the current market or with the current customer segment, you can decide whether to go to a different market or different customer segment with this idea).
What features have they released at each investment phase (you can understand what made them stand out and attract investors to fall in love with them. This also means these can be the times they gain high income and higher number of users for the product).
In summary, by checking these, you can easily understand what brought your competitors users and revenue.
Bonus tip: Sometimes you can select one simple, but very much loved single feature from a big business and develop it as a single product too. Because people love simple ideas that serve only a single purpose instead of using big solutions that have many options/ features.
Tell me, how easy it is for you to buy a toothbrush in the supermarket, when you can see only 1-2 options versus when you can see 10 options?
And what would you buy if there’s a toothbrush that you can brush your teeth quickly versus many toothbrushes which provide versions/ solutions with too many confusing technologies (version 2022, 2023 etc. etc.)?
Many people would go for the 1st option, because that solves the one basic problem/ need. People don’t have time or knowledge to spend on researching the differences between options for simple matters unless they are buying their dream car or house or something expensive.
So, be simple, build a simple solution to solve a single major problem that people actually want help with.
Finally, check whether you can do it on a small scale for a different niche and start your own business as an entrepreneur or help improve your existing product to gain new customers or improve sales as a Product Manager/ Product Owner or a Business Analyst. This will be explained more in my article next week.
So stay tuned.
